CIRCLES
So much that is beautiful in the world is circular or round in its form.
So much that comes into being by growing, bursting, splashing, exploding, blooming, radiating or expanding manifests -- if part of a surface -- as a circle.
The natural world is abundant with circles. Observing these circles in the world, each eye with its circular lens apprehends the world in circular units.
In circle-shaped paintings, configured for a domestic scale, I have sought to catch some of the beauty of the rhythms, curves and pitches of a lively river valley.
These valley shapes are inherently pleasing; wave-like shapes of rivers and mountains are pleasant and beautiful. These tiled tondo shapes seek not to describe but to rhyme with their source material.
